The Australian Dental Association (ADA) has applauded announcement by the Turnbull Government and its Health Minister, Greg Hunt, to reinstate the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) cap to $1,000.
“The Minister for Health, the Hon Greg Hunt … advised the ADA that a number of changes to the CDBS have been finalised and will take effect on 1 January 2018.”

The Child Dental Benefit Schedule or CDBS is intended to benefit children ages 2-17 years who receive Government Benefits. If your children are eligible, they are able to receive up to $1000 over 2 calendar years for preventative and restorative dentistry such as:
The Child Dental Benefit Schedule does not cover cosmetic dental work or orthodontics. In addition, it does not cover procedures conducted in a hospital.
Is Your Child Eligible for Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
Here at West Ryde Dental Clinic we bulk-bill all dental treatments for children covered under the CBDS scheme. To check if you are eligible or check your remaining funds contact Medicare or contact us on 9809 7000.
Keep in mind that the remaining balance of CDBS at the end of 2-year calendar period is not applicable beyond the relevant period. In addition, only the eligible patient can use the benefit cap. Any family member who is not eligible cannot share the entitlements of the Child Dental Benefit Schedule.
The $1000 grant is applicable over the two consecutive calendar years, after the eligibility of the child is reassessed and if he/she is entitled to another grant. Dental services provided under the scheme will not contribute to the Medicare Safety Net or to the Extended Medicare Safety Net thresholds.
